During May we will once again be taking part in the West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios scheme, showing our own new work alongside that of Diana Barraclough and Belinda Gizzi at Diana's house and studio in Hungerford.

Susie’s new and colourful canvases are concerned with surface texture and ideas of abstraction, although with some figurative elements underpinning them. Rowan, meanwhile, continues to explore a re-echoing dialogue between the past and present through the medium of his hand-built bowls and jars.

Both of will also be showing work at the Open Studio's flagship Insight exhibition at New Greenham Arts, as well as taking part in the Between the Spaces exhibition at Arlington Arts near Newbury.

As well as all that, Susie is contributing half a dozen of her larger paintings to a special Open Studios exhibition at the Benchmark furniture showroom just east of Hungerford.

A few weeks later, she will be showing further work as part of the 2013 HADCAF exhition at The Birches, Chilton Foliat, RG17 0TE. Open 10.00 am – 5.00 pm each weekend from Saturday 29 June to Sunday 21 July. The private view will be on Thursday 27 June, 6.30 – 8.30pm

For further information about the Open Studios programme and to find out more about Diana and Belinda's ceramic work just visit the links below.

From the A4, turn right into Hungerford town. Turn right down Church Street, right again down Croft Road, then right for a third time at the Croft Hall. The studio is at the second semi past the bowling green.

Opening Times

4–6; 10–12 and 17–19 May, 11am – 5pm

Private View: Saturday 4 May, 6.00–9.30 – Everyone welcome!

For the fortnight of 2012's summer's festivities in east London a selection of Rowan's pots had the honour of appearing atop classic pieces of Benchmark furniture in the top VIP hospitality suite for a certain major sporting event.

The work in the pavilion was chosen to represent the best of contemporary British design, materials and craftsmanship and it was just a pity that the tight IOC security rules prevented me from seeing it all in situ – and even from including a photo here on the website!

Arlington Arts, Newbury

Tuesday 1 May - Saturday 30 June 2012

What do we do when inspired by words or works? What happens when words fail? Our lives are a rich web of intertextuality, from books and popular culture to our own exchanges.

As part of West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios 2012. Arlington Arts is once again presenting an exhibition of work by artists participating in the scheme as well as others based further afield.

This year artists are invited to submit pieces based on the title Afterwords. Susie's contribution will be a new mixedi-media piece inspired by Kathleen Jamie's poem Skeins o’ geese. Composed of four separate card panels, it is all about the formations that geese form against the sky, and the constantly moving patterns that the birds make on their long journeys, sometimes wheeling, sometimes straight, sometimes in a vee.

Example's of Rowan's work are on more-or-less permanent show at the Benchmark furniture showroom. Located just of the A4 between Newbury and Hungerford, Benchmark was established nearly 30 years ago by Sir Terence Conran and Sean Sutcliffe and today produces superb contemporary furniture that combines the highest standards of desing and craftsman.  The polished surfaces of Benchmark's chests and tables are a perfect complement to the textures of my own hand-built bowls and jars and it is a pleasure to be able to show my work in this terrific environment.

Courtyard Gallery
